An important goal of the OEK is to trace the genesis of each work by displaying all available sketches, first versions, and revisions. These so-called "censory libretti" are especially valuable documents in a work’s history. They are hand-written first versions of the text books as submitted to the Parisian or Viennese Office of Censorship. As they still contain the marks and remarks of their authors as well as their censors they offer an exciting insight into the original conceptions of the authors and put the final version for the theatre in context. So far the following censory libretti are available as new editions that may be downloaded for non-commercial purposes (text document as PDF file).
